But for reals, y'all, I need to get on this! Now that I'm wrist deep in secularity, I need a creative outlet, my interpretive jazz tap class just isn't cutting it anymore. (Please note: no, of course not....) But anyway, I think that as usual, a lack of structure is really affecting my job performance. If I don't have a goal to accomplish, I accomplish nothing! I don't know if that's type A personality or B, but a BA's aside, I need to get a move on.
So, my goal for this month will be as follows: to post a list every day. Yes, every. day. Its actually really ironic and convenient that today is May 1st......I totally planned that........
I love lists. I admit without shame that I spend many a distracted hour reading lists of "50 celebrities you didn't know _________" that pop up in the msn feed. (Yes, I still use Hotmail, don't bother me....)
Lists are a nice way to compare and contract. We can commemorate favorites, or commiserate about differences. Either way, lists expose so much about someone, first of all being their ability to quantify their interest and numericalize them (No, its not really a word).

So, without much ado (because in reality, its nothing) here is
TheBlakeSheep's Top 5 favorite movies!
If you know me (which, again, I'm sure you do because, really, how else would you have found this?)(also, I need to stop using parenthesis so much, I'm losing my trains of thought)....you know that I love entertainment. I shamelessly love movies, music, the theatre, all that jazz (though, ironically, not the movie All That Jazz....), In fact, one of the first ice breakers I give when meeting someone is asking them their favorite movie. I find that you can really learn a lot about someone from their favorite movies. 9/10, in fact, people say they can't narrow just one, so my follow up question is "What movie could you watch over and over again, watch it then start it over again?" and I actually find that it tends to be a more concrete answer. You may love a movie, but most movies don't merit a marathon. But, we all have that one......
So, here is my list of my favorite movies. Some I could watch all day everyday (and I did a few times on a couple options); some I feel extremely connected to; some feature my favorite performances; some are nostalgic if nothing more; and some are just plain stupid and you would be wrong not to judge me for my poor taste. But, either way, here I present for you, my movies. I reserve the right to deny suggesting them.
The Phantom of the Opera
This movie will always be at the top of my list. As time has gone by, I realize that this movie does have its flaws, and I understand when people don't like it; however, to me, this movie is the culmination of all of my childhood dreams. I went to see Phantom on stage when I was 5, and ever since then, I have had an obsession with it. I won't bore you with the details of my obsession (I'm sure a future episode of Intervention will feature me accepting help for my addiction), but suffice it to say I was obsessed to the point of awkward. For my 5th grade talent show I reenacted the prologue....onstage....in a cape. Nuff' said. But, anyway, my Phantom obsession has calmed down in the past few years; but, like a stomach filled with Red Curry, my passion continues to burn. At any point during my day, I find myself singing a tune, my ipod will end up on one of the songs, my inner dork will shine through at any moment. I love this movie, and always will.
Edward Scissorhands
At the risk of sounding like a hipster, I liked Johnny Depp before it was cool. Edward Scissorhands is another movie that harkens back to my childhood. I have such fond memories of being 5 years old, lying in bed watching the shadows of trees on my wall that I was certain were Edward Scissorhands trying to break into my room to attack me.....wait, why do I like this movie?
In reality, though, this movie is my kind of movie on every level. The anachronistic tone that makes the film nostalgic and also strangely modern adds an funky flair that keeps me intrigued. The classic Tim Burton Gothic style give operatic grandeur to what's basically a funky acid trip of a story. And Danny Elfman's gargantuan score still makes my heart flutter and my legs fight the urge to run in horror from whatever is obviously about to chase me (on that note, fantastic for my workout playlist...because obviously I work out.....now where did that Cheesy Gordita Crunch go?) For so many reasons, I delight in this movie, and its on my list of flicks that I can watch over and over again. Also, for this woman.
Much Ado About Nothing
Who don't love Shakespeare, ammi right? Oh wait, no, I'm wrong. I think the vast majority of people are not into the old Bard, and I myself am not the hugest of fans. However, Much Ado About Nothing is one of my favorite movies, and thus is also my favorite work of the 'Speare. I've seen a few adaptions over the years, but none can compete with Kenneth Branaugh's. I love the raw, clever wit of everyone involved, and the picturesque Italian setting ain't too bad to look at neither. This movie is so cleverly quotable, and features so much silly drama that you would think it was a high school ladies room. To this day, I have a strange crush on Emma Thompson that defies any physical explanation.....
Harriet the Spy
This one is a hard pick, because I can't necessarily say this is my "favorite movie", but it fills me with so many feels, that it holds a special place in my heart. This movie for me is like watching the 90's, thus like watching my childhood. Though a bit more complex and, lets be honest, wealthier than my childhood, Harriet the Spy is like a memory of my school days. The melange of kids, the oh so specific life goals and positions in childhood society, the funky hipster before hipster was hipster dress, all of this is like watching my kid-hood. While this is a "kids movie", it really has a higher life as a mature, realistic look at dealing with human struggles throughout childhood. While we laugh at Harriet's valiant efforts to define herself, and overcome emotional mountains, inside, one can't help but weep for their own forgotten innocence, their own issues that seemed so profound at a time, but now are regarded as fond memories....
Whoa, that got deep, never mind. Remember Earth Kitt?
Les Miserables
This should explain.....

So, there it is. Sorry if they are terrible, but this is the internet, and I have exercise the right to not care about others opinions. Feel free to comment about why these are dumb choices, or about how ridiculous it is for a grown man to feature two musicals in a favorite list and not one superhero movie. If that's how you feel, you will not like tomorrow's list......
A demain!
